I just discovered Twittix, an S60 twitter application, when I was browsing on Nokia Ovi store yesterday. So instead of getting to Snaptu, Tweets60 applications, I have to make way for this first. Because I just have a trial application so I’ll post about it before it expires.
Twittix is developed by Mojos Studios (you can follow them at twitter as @mojosmobile). They specifically state in their website that Twittix is ‘The best mobile Twitter Client for Nokia Smartphones.’ From their site:
Supported Devices: Nokia 3250, 5320 XpressMusic, 5500, 5700, Nokia 5800 Xpress Music, 6110, 6120, 6121, 6210, 6220, 6290, 6650, E50, E51, E60, E61, E61i, E62, E63, E65, E66, E70, E71, E90, N71, N73, N76, N77, N78, N80, N81, N82, N91, N92, N93, N95, N95 8GB and N96.
I am big fan of Gravity S60 twitter application, so I can be biased when I would say that compared to Gravity, Twittix has a lot of things to catch up. But still, it is one of the few ‘decent’ symbian twitter applications. Same with other twitter applications, it has the standard features.
It has an Account page where you can manage your account or accounts. This is the first thing that you will find when you start using it. Twittix can handle multiple accounts. Simply click on the account to get into its Timeline and others.
The tweets or features are arrange by tabs just like in Gravity. On my Nokia E63, switching from one tab/feature /area of Twittix can be done by clicking the left and right of scroll bar. The different areas are arranged in this series — Timeline, @owrange (mentions), Messages, Favourites, Followers, Following, Everyone, My Status, and Search.
Timeline basically presented the stream of tweets of the people you follow with their avatar/headshot. You also have the option to disable the display of headshot — I believe this means faster loading of data.
The Options is for creating tweet, sending direct messages, refreshing the timeline, etc.
To reply/forward/retweet/unfollow/open url/link or view user information or mark a tweet as favorite, you should use the center button. It also has a feature Introduce @xx which I like. If you want to share or recommed twitter users to one of your friends, you can use this function.
If a tweet is a reply to a tweet/conversation, Twittix can expand it like a threaded conversation. One of the things I like about it.
I like the way how Followers and Following are presented by Twittix. They display all the avatars/headshots which looks like a collage of photos.
Twittix also gives you option to add picture to your tweet. When you are in ‘text editor’ mode, you can click on Options, and you will find the function to Add photo. It will pull up the pictures from your phone’s image gallery which you can choose from.
User interface, user-friendly wise, and functionality wise, I can say Twittix is a very good symbian OS celphone twitter client. But the one BOO thing is its speed. It is simply SLOW. However great an application is if its speed is not acceptable, it’s a big turn off. Just this speed thing, and I could highly recommend it as a good twitter client. But nevertheless, switching from one feature to another is snappy enough.
