——————————

I guess this will drive more blackberry users here in the Philippines. As for me, it’s interesting and tempting but I’m still happy with my trusty Nokia symbian phone. =) And the few times I tried using blackberry of my husband, the BIS can really be slow but I guess it’s because BIS is somewhere in the GPRS speed, to make it lightweight so as to save battery usage. So the point here is if you need a faster speed, you must have a wifi connection too.

twitmoko.com / Smart Tweets – update twitter, facebook, friendster using SMS

Twitmoko.com is an application for sending and receiving updates from your social sites — facebook, twitter, friendster — which is part of mysandbox.com portal, which is also a product / service of Smart Communications. In short, twitmoko.com is another service provided by Smart Communications in Philippines for updating your twitter, facebook, and friendster.

To register for the twitmoko / Smart Tweets service, simply go to twitmoko.com website or sandbox web portal.

I do not have a smart sim so I cannot really test this out. But I saw someone using this so I guess it really works. For the rates of twitmoko.com / Smart Tweets, following are lifted from their FAQ page:

TEXT KEYWORDS TO 5656
Facebook Twitter Friendster Price
To activate FB ON TWIT ON FS ON P2.50

So it’s Php 2.50 for activation. Then, Php 2.50 for following people. I believe this is more of which people you follow you want to receive updates from. I’m not sure of Php 2.50 is per person you are going to activate for following.

How do I select friends to follow on text?
The service allows you to follow up to 10 friends on your phone. So pick ’em wisely! You will only receive the status updates of friends you are following.Remember, you can always manage who you want to follow on mobile right here on Sandbox! Just login here at www.mysandbox.com/nets.

TEXT KEYWORDS TO 5656
Facebook Twitter Friendster Price
FB FOLLOW <Friend name> TWIT FOLLOW <Friend name> FS FOLLOW
<Friend’s username on Friendster>
P2.50
Example: FB FOLLOW josie marie cruz TWIT FOLLOWcoffeemonday FS FOLLOW Juan Cruz

t’s what so great about this service! You will only get prompted to subscribe if:

» Somebody writes on your WALL or makes a COMMENT about your status or replies to your Tweet.
» Your selected friends updated their status.
» By default, you will receive all messages posted on your Facebook wall and messages sent to your Facebook Inbox. If you want to select the type of post you get, see the Other Helpful Keywords below on how to deactivate Phone Comments, Wall and Inbox.

TEXT KEYWORDS TO 5656

For 30 updates for 24 hours FB 5 TWIT 5 FS 5 P5.00
For 120 updates for 24 hours FB 20 TWIT 20 FS 20 P20.00

I believe the above rates is for the updates you will receive from your phone. So the minimum rate is Php 5 per social site for every 30 updates. Then, Php 20 per social site for 120 updates.

Then, Php 1.00 per update you will send to the social sites of your choice.

Hey how do I update my Status by Text?
Easy! Just text the keyword and the message. Remember to stay within the character limits so you don’t get errors!

» Remember to stay within the character limits so you don’t get errors!

That’s it! After sending the text, your status will be updated online! Cool right?

With mail2mobile, you can now send and receive emails via a simple text / sms with just your basic celphone. You do not need internet connection, or a high-end smart phone just so you can send and receive email. It will cost you Php 2.50 per message sent for Globe and Smart users.

mail2mobile -- email via text / sms

To get started emailing from your celphone even without internet, simply text:

format in sending email via text / sms using mail2mobile

This is how mail2mobile email sent to my Gmail email account looks like.

Automatically, your 10-digit-number@m2m.ph will become your email address. So your friends can simply email you via your m2m (mailtomobile) address, and you can receive it via text / sms. For example, my mail2mobile address is 9273388689@m2m.ph since my mobile number is 0927-338-8689. So if you email me at 9273388689@m2m.ph, I can receive your email from my phone via text / sms.

Globe Email-to-Go — email via text / sms

I’ve been looking for this kind of service (you can find my post about this here). Then, I discover that Globe is offering Email-to-Go. After you register your email account to Globe’s Email-to-Go, you will receive a text / SMS alert if you have a new email.

Following is the complete mechanics on how to register and use Globe’s Email-to-Go. It’s lifted from http://76.74.139.107/wap/ego_help.do.

Email-on-the-Go (EGO) allows a subscriber to get their emails “pushed” to their mobile device in real-time:

ON PUSH
ON PUSH allows you to get full email.
To activate, text ON PUSH to 2246. Ex: ON PUSH P2.50/text.

ON ALERT
ON ALERT allows you to get a summery of the email, which contain the name and email address of the sender, timestamp, email ID and subject only.
To activate, text ON ALERT to 2246. Ex: ON ALERT P2.50/text.

STOP ALL
STOP ALL allows you to opt-out, text STOP PUSHMAIL to 2246.

TAG
TAG allows you to link an email account to your EGO account.
To activate, text TAG to 2246 for FREE. Ex: TAG user@email.com password.

UNTAG
UNTAG allows you to remove an email account from your EGO account.
To activate, text UNTAG to 2246. Ex: UNTAG user@email.com. P2.50/text.

READ
READ allows you to retrieve an email from your tagged accounts.
To activate, text READ to 2246. Ex: READ 12345. P2.50/text.

SEND
SEND to send an email to another person from your mobile phone.
To activate, text SEND to 2246. Ex: SEND user@mail.com Hello there! I am back. P2.50/text.

REPLY
REPLY / REPLYALL allow you to reply to the sender of the email, or everyone in the mail loop.
To activate, text REPLY / REPLYALL to 2246. Ex: REPLY 12345 Hello there! I am back. P2.50/text.

FORWARD
FORWARD allows you to forward the message to another recipient.
To activate, text FORWARD to 2246. Ex: FORWARD 1234 mjd@email.com Got this from JYak. P2.50/text.

ADD
ADD allows you to put in an entry to your contact list.
To activate, text ADD to 2246. Ex: ADD Mano mjd@email.com. P2.50/text.

REMOVE
REMOVE allows you to take out an entry from your contact list.
To activate, text REMOVE or to 2246. Ex: REMOVE George. P2.50/text.

LIST
LIST allows you to list the entries of your contact List.
To activate, text LIST 2246. Ex: LIST. P2.50/text.

FIND
FIND allows you to search your contact list based on a query string.
To activate, text FIND to 2246. Ex: FIND Mano. P2.50/text.

BLOCK
BLOCK allows you to add an email address or domain you your blacklist. You will not receive any email from it.
To activate, text BLOCK to 2246. Ex: BLOCK jose@email.com. P2.50/text.

UNBLOCK
UNBLOCK allows you to remove an email address or domain from your blacklist.
To activate, text UNBLOCK to 2246. Ex: UNLOCK harvey@email.com. P2.50/text.

TRUST
TRUST allows you to whitelist email addresses or domain names so you receive email alerts.
To whitelist, text TRUST to 2246. Ex: TRUST royd@yahoo.com. P2.50/txt

DENY
DENY allows you to remove an email address or domain from your whitelist.
To delist, text DENY to 2246. Ex: DENY royd@yahoo.com. P2.50/txt.

This service is provided by a a 3rd-party service provider, UnoMobi — which is based in Toronto and San Francisco.

Following are screenshots of the Email-to-Go texts I received from my mobile phone. Proof that it works!

I was also able to reply to an email via text / SMS.

The basic rates are P1.00 for the text alerts, and P2.50 for the rest. I feel the rate is a little bit high, especially if you’ll be receiving bulks of email It will be nice to have a one-time flat fee. But then if your email is very important like business deals — price is fair enough.

0.facebook.com on Sun Cellular — free facebook surfing

Facebook launched their 0.facebook.com last May, 2010. I believe this is to make facebook more accessible to the less developed countries where people mostly use their mobile phones to access the web. Then, Sun Cellular offers the 0.facebook.com by Juned, 2010.

If you were familiar with the WAP mobile sites like 10 years ago, then that’s how the 0.facebook.com looks like — it’s pure text, no images; but they provide links to images. So the catch there is that if you want to view pictures, you will then be charged with mobile internet fees.

From their facebook blog:

Collaborating with operators from around the world, we developed this new mobile site with two main attributes:

  • It’s fast: 0.facebook.com includes all the key features of our standard mobile site m.facebook.com. Users can update their status, view their News Feed, like or comment on posts, send and reply to messages, or write on their friends’ Wall just as they do on Facebook.com. Rather than making photos viewable on 0.facebook.com, we put the photos one click away so they don’t slow down the experience. You can still view any photos on Facebook if you want but your regular data fees will apply.
  • It’s free: Thanks to the help of mobile operators we collaborated with, people can access 0.facebook.com without any data charges. Using 0.facebook.com is completely free. People will only pay for data charges when they view photos or when they leave 0.facebook.com to browse other mobile sites. When they click to view a photo or browse another mobile site a notification page will appear to confirm that they will be charged if they want to leave 0.facebook.com

Though Sun Cellular is not really that reliable regarding signal and reliability, but they’ve been really good at providing real Value Added Services, like they were first with facebook and twitter update with their Sun Alertz, and now collaborating with Facebook for 0.facebook.com. There are probably more VAS I’m just not familiar with since I’m no Sun Cellular subcriber.
